The Strike of Chirala-Perala

In 1921, to protest extortionate municipal taxes, all 15,000 residents of Chirala-Perala, Andhra Pradesh abandoned their homes overnight, relocating to temporary huts. For eleven months, the British were humiliated, left to govern an empty ghost town with zero revenue. This historic mass exodus broke the administration’s authority, proving an empire cannot rule a population that refuses to be governed. Delhivery bows to the valour of the people of Chirala-Perala, whose sacrifices paved our way to freedom.
