The Defiance of Banaras
In 1930, the weaver community of Banaras, Uttar Pradesh launched a massive economic revolt against the forced import of British textiles. Refusing to operate looms for colonial merchants, thousands boycotted British trade. When armed police tried to violently break the strike, the weavers stood firm. This blockade dried up revenues, striking a heavy blow at the Empire’s financial greed. Delhivery bows to the valour of the people of Banaras, whose sacrifices paved our way to freedom.
