On June 17, 1911, the railway junction of Maniyachi, Tamil Nadu became the site of a historic revolutionary strike. Young patriot Vanchinathan assassinated District Collector Robert Ashe to avenge colonial suppression of Swadeshi shipping and nationalist movements.
