The Protest of Patharughat

In January 1894, decades before Jallianwala Bagh, the farmers of Patharughat, Assam staged a massive peaceful protest against extortionate British land taxes. When authorities tried to violently disperse them, the unarmed protesters stood their ground. British forces opened fire unprovoked, martyring over 140 farmers. Patharughat stands as a monumental testament to Northeast India’s resistance. Delhivery bows to the valour of the people of Patharughat, whose sacrifices paved our way to freedom.
