The Tragedy of Chirner
On 25 September 1930, in open defiance of British forest laws during the Civil Disobedience Movement, the villagers of Chirner, Maharashtra gathered in the forest to cut grass and firewood. British officials arrived and opened fire on the unarmed crowd, killing eight people, including a brave 21-year-old. The tragedy became a rallying cry across Maharashtra’s forest satyagrahas. Delhivery bows to the valour of the people of Chirner, whose sacrifices paved our way to freedom.
