The Liberation of Sivaganga
In 1780, Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu witnessed a historic campaign to reclaim native land from the East India Company. Rani Velu Nachiyar, alongside the Maruthu brothers and commander Kuyili, launched a daring assault on the colonial fort. Kuyili executed India’s first recorded suicide strike by setting herself alight to detonate the British arsenal, liberating Sivaganga.
