The Legends of Sonakhan
In 1856, Sonakhan, Chhattisgarh became a legendary beacon of peasant defiance. During a severe famine, local zamindar Veer Narayan Singh broke open private grain stores to feed starving villagers. Arrested by the British, he escaped, raised an army of 500 tribal fighters, and defended Sonakhan against colonial assault before his martyrdom in Raipur.
