The Declaration of Port Blair

On December 30, 1943, Port Blair became the very first part of Indian territory liberated from British colonial rule. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose arrived at Gymkhana Ground, raised the National Flag, and officially declared the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Shaheed and Swaraj Islands, fulfilling the dream of a free Indian government on sovereign soil.
