The Bravery of Gohpur

On 10 September 1942, the small town of Gohpur in Assam witnessed an act of immortal bravery during the Quit India Movement. Leading a peaceful procession of unarmed villagers towards the local police station, 17-year-old Kanaklata Barua marched fearlessly with the Tricolor held high. As she stepped forward to unfurl the flag atop the colonial building, British police opened fire, martyring Kanaklata and her companion Mukunda Kakati on the spot. Falling with the flag still clutched in her hands, her ultimate sacrifice ignited an unstoppable wave of youth-led rebellion across the Brahmaputra Valley. Delhivery bows to the valour of the people of Gohpur, whose sacrifices paved our way to freedom.
